If you are like me, Easter is one of the times of year where my will power NEVER wins. I used to tell myself that I wouldn’t have chocolate or I would only have one little egg or try to convince myself that if I did X amount of exercise I could have X chocolate eggs…
One thing I have learnt over the past 4 or so years is being totally ok with whatever I choose to eat, and not punishing myself at the other side. If I want an Easter Egg, I will have it. If I want an entire block of chocolate, I will have it (yes, I have been known to do this! But my body will tell me it wasn’t a great idea later!) If I want a big green juice, I will have it. (yes in the past I would freak out if a green juice wasn’t on my meal plan and I had one!)
What I have taught myself and what I am trying to educate my clients on is CHOICE. And that if you are consistent long enough with balanced nutrition and correct exercise tailored to your specific goals, then when you do CHOOSE to have a treat, or enjoy some festivities, it really is NOT going to wreck all of your hard work!
My bounce back tips after Easter, or at any time of the year where you have celebrations are these:
- Give yourself an end date. I had 6 days of holidays over Easter in Fiji. I knew that I wanted to get “back on track” once I was home and gave myself a 8-Week Challenge starting 4th April. So I know my end date for “relaxing” is the 3rd April then its time to BOUNCE BACK and get my body and energy back to the level I am used to!
- Get MOVING straight away! Go out for a walk, do a body weight circuit in the park, pick your favourite gym class and go to it! Moving creates endorphins (happy hormones) so once you get moving again, you will fell good and want to make better nutrition choices too!
- Drink lots of WATER! Yes I still stand by my 3-4L of water a day! Drinking more water will help get rid of any toxins built up over the indulging period and help give your digestive system a little boost too!
- Clean up and get ORGANISED! As soon as you are ready to bounce back, just straight back in to organising your food. Follow your nutritional plan, or if you don’t have one ask for some help! Clean up your diet, as is, take out the processed sugars, and saturated fats. Then get prepping!
But most of all remember to have fun! Make choices that inspire you and get you excited to live your life daily!
Let me know how you all go with getting back in to the swing of life after Easter!
